On The Bab | Marylebone Lane, W1
I popped into On The Bab on Marylebone Lane after a recent trip to the hairdressers (where I returned a couple of inches lighter and a little bit blonder). I emerged after 2 hours as if I had had access to a time machine, looking as glorious as I did with a similar 'do at Uni, except that they had given me one of those oh-so-gorgeous Gypsy blow-outs with huge round curls. Why do people always do this to me? Hairdressers just can't help themselves around long hair.
Such is the nature of the world we live in, I had seen On The Bab on the 'Gram and was excited to try it out. I actually hadn't realised that, after graduating, I had been working at a pub 5 minutes away from here, actually on the same road...kind of shameful but at the time I was too busy trying to find a job to think about anything else aside from smashing out my CV and pouring the perfect Guinness. And I pour a pretty decent pint, even to this day.
This cute little set up is perfect for a quick chow down.
The Korean Fried Chicken - YangYum Chicken on the menu - is bloody great. Well seasoned, with a crispy batter. I ordered them coated with the Sweet and Spicy Sauce, as opposed to the Soy Ginger as I'm not a big ginger fan (I do, however, love a redhead). It's the kind of sauce that your average Chinese takeaway Sweet and Sour whishes it was - sweet and sticky but with a kick. AND, topped with peanuts - gotta love that.
I am not normally a fan of cabbage on the side of anything but this was really fresh and crunchy and doused with a sriracha mayonnaise - it was obviously going to taste amazing and I am not going to hide the fact that I added more. A lot more actually. But this is a safe space and a judgement-free zone. Right?
I also got myself a Seaweed Salad which was great. Better than your average Kaiso Seaweed Salad from Yo Sushi - which I still don't think is anything to sniff at. Marinated seaweed, with sesame seeds - delicious!
Will I come back? It would seem ridiculous not to with Korean Fried Chicken this good.
The Damage
2x YangYum Chicken @ £5.90
1 x Rice @ £2
1 x Seaweed Salad @ £3 (I think...)
No bevs because I was due for a nap after my early hair appointment.
£15.80, or thereabouts
Not bad for little a drive-by chicken sesh and perfect for a pit-stop during a busy shopping day. Good to note that there are about 15 seats in this place, in case you were thinking about bringing a crew down, probably best to save that for another day.
